The application of gold, silver and palladium leaf to architectural surfaces, furniture and heritage interiors is one of the most demanding — and rewarding — of all the decorative crafts. SLC Finishes' hand-applied lacquer finish involves manually applying lacquer to a surface. The result is a more nuanced and customised finish compared to machine application, showcasing our craftsmanship and attention to detail.

SLC Finishes has a long-established specialism in contemporary japanning and bespoke spray lacquer, producing some of the finest lacquered surfaces in the UK. From high-gloss lacquered walls and ceilings to satin and eggshell finishes on joinery and bespoke furniture, our spray facility and on-site capability are unmatched.

For fifteen years our dedicated studio and workshop at the Gasworks, Chelsea produced bespoke lacquered and gilded furniture for the world's leading interior designers and private clients — with a depth of experience in this discipline that is simply rare in the industry.

The art of the decorative painter encompasses a vast range of techniques, each requiring years of dedicated study and practice to master. SLC Finishes offers the full spectrum — from classical marbling and faux bois graining to trompe l'œil, cracked gesso and bespoke decorative schemes for the world's most discerning interiors.

Our work in this field ranges from a single exquisite marble-effect doorway surround to entire rooms decorated in complex multi-technique schemes, designed in close collaboration with the client and their designer.

Conservation

The conservation and restoration of historic interiors demands a depth of knowledge that goes far beyond conventional decorating. SLC Finishes has spent decades working on some of Britain's most important buildings — developing the expertise to approach every heritage commission with the sensitivity, skill and rigour it deserves.

Specialist paint removal is one of the most technically demanding aspects of heritage conservation. Over many decades of accumulated paint layers, original plasterwork, gilding and carved detail can become entirely obscured. SLC Finishes carries out the careful, methodical removal of paint from cornicing, fibrous enrichments, carved joinery and architectural mouldings — revealing the original surface without causing damage and preparing it for faithful restoration.

Beyond paint removal, our heritage offer encompasses the careful restoration of gilded and decorated surfaces and the re-creation of historic decorative schemes for Grade I and Grade II listed buildings — working in close collaboration with conservation architects, heritage bodies and building owners.
